Fleet Feet Sports – Sacramento has a long, long history.  Founded in 1976, this was the first Fleet Feet Sports store to open, and now boasts 170 stores nationwide.  Pat and Jan Sweeney acquired the store in 1996 with plans to create a hub for the community to gather and improve their lives through fitness.  In order to do this, they understood that if ownership focuses on the staff, the staff will in turn focus on customer experience.  This store, along with Fleet Feet, Inc. in general, takes pride in turning “customer service” into a premium customer experience.  This requires being flexible, but also having consistency.  Staff training and hiring/promoting from within the company has been the most effective way for this to happen.  Five of the main administrative employees, including the new owners, began as fit specialists in the store.  After being with the company for nearly 15 years in various positions, including a short hiatus to try a different career path (it wasn’t nearly as fun), Dusty Robinson and his wife, Staci, purchased the store in October 2016

“Live what you love. You should always pursue what makes you happy.”

Being the “original” Fleet Feet carries tremendous responsibility, and Dusty and Staci are committed to the relentless pursuit of being great at what they do on all levels. A lot of stores offer training programs, but the programs Fleet Feet offers are a separate business entirely. At its peak, this store alone was training over 3,000 people in a single year for distances from 5k all the way to the full marathon. The programs have settled into consistently having 1,600 to 1,700 trainees each year across all programs. Aside from training programs, this store has recently begun taking appointments Monday through Friday to add to the customer experience. Appointments have been very well received as customers appreciate knowing that someone is expecting them.  In fact, Dusty credits the appointment system with bringing back several lapsed customers because they know they will be helped quickly and efficiently.
