Jon and Burke Beck founded Red Coyote Running and Fitness in 2009 to promote a healthy life in Oklahoma City and surrounding communities. They wanted to help change Oklahoma City because it was ranked at the bottom in all national health and wellness rankings. In addition they desired to create an exceptional retail experience by providing excellent customer care, unmatched product knowledge and build strong relationships within their community.
They named the store after Pancho, their dog, who is believed to be part coyote. Pancho was their running partner for many years and has been the face of our brand from the beginning – joining them at events, social runs, and on the floor. Pancho celebrated his 10th birthday this year so he is not running as far anymore, but still jumps with excitement the minute they reach for our running shoes.
The Red Coyote staff is highly trained and treats each customer the same, whether they want a pair of shoes to start walking during their lunch break or they want a pair of shoes to run their 20th marathon. They have created a safe friendly environment for every person in Oklahoma City.
Red Coyote has touched the community is such a strong way that they have several community partners. COOP Aleworks and Red Coyote opened about the same time so they asked them to sponsor their Pack Pint Runs. In the beginning they could split a case between the runners, then moved to a keg, but when they consistently had 150- 200 runners showing up every Thursday, COOP decided to can a Red Coyote beer called Negative Split. Negative Split is served every Thursday at Red Coyote and is available all over Oklahoma City for purchase.
Girls on the Run of Oklahoma in another huge community partnerships. Girls on the Run was founded in Oklahoma shortly after Red Coyote and we have had a strong partnership through the years. The past couple years we have solidified the partnership with the help of Saucony and every girl in the program now receives a pair of Saucony running shoes. The program has grown from 3 chapters to over 20 chapters in just 5 years!
Other community partners: Oklahoma City Memorial Marathon or Half Marathon and Bob Moore Subaru, and partnering with dozen of local business’ during their Local Love Run.
On what makes their store unique: “The name of our store, Red Coyote, and our staff. We have an incredible team that was the critical point in making us the Best Running Store in 2015.” - Jon and Burke Beck
