There’s no better example of the love of our sport than running Boston. How can someone who is willing to run 26.2 miles over its legendary rolling course not love it? For what other reason would someone go through the training, pain and exhaustion to ultimately join the ranks of those who can proudly state, “I ran Boston.” This year, over 32,000 runners will answer the sirens’ song in Hopkinton, writing a collective love letter that doesn’t just end at the finish line. No runner ever forgets their first, second or even 10th time running Boston. Whether elite athlete or charity runner, it's a labor of love and in the end, that's what really matters.
Here at Saucony, Patriots Day weekend is basically Christmas. Our friends from all over the running community come to visit, and we get to see the months and years of training come to fruition for our athletes as well as coworkers. Every year we do something special to commemorate the event, and this year may be the best yet. Here's what we have going on!
Saucony Limited Edition Boston Freedom ISO
We're honoring our home city's marathon with a salute to the birthplace of the American Revolution. The Limited Edition Boston Freedom ISO is inspired by the historic Freedom Trail, a 2.5 mile path through downtown Boston that passes 16 landmarks significant to the American Revolution. Now you can battle Boston’s renowned cobblestone streets with EVERUN™ Continuous Cushioning, for more energy return, more responsiveness and a more amazing run from your first step to your last.
The Boston Freedom ISO’s outsole and sockliner depict the Freedom Trail’s double-lined red-brick route. Golden lettering on the shoe’s upper and a gold-flecked full-length EVERUN midsole allude to the in-ground bronze medallions along the trail.
The Boston Freedom ISO shoe is available in navy for Men and red for Women at Saucony.com, Marathon Sports locations and at the Saucony Booth at the John Hancock Sports & Fitness Expo (click here for Google Map) from Friday April 14th through Sunday April 16th.
The Beautiful Mind of Running: 2016 Olympian Jared Ward
Jared Ward, 2016 U.S. Olympian and Saucony athlete, is inspired by his love for running and numbers−miles, pace and the complex statistical concepts he teaches to undergraduates at Brigham Young University. A 2017 elite Boston competitor, Professor Ward wrote his master’s thesis on marathon pacing and is considered himself to be one of the best pacers in the sport.
Now, for the first time beyond the walls of his BYU classroom, Professor Ward will share a summary of his master's thesis at an exclusive event during marathon weekend to help us all run our own perfect pace. Contained within are data-based lessons that can be applied for athletes at any level and any age. A Saucony grant in the name of Jared Ward will be made to the John D. O’Bryant School of Mathematics and Science (Roxbury, MA) at the event. The O’Bryant students not only share a passion for numbers with Ward, but running as well: The O’Bryant Middle School boys and girls cross country teams captured the 2016 Boston City Cross Country Championship titles.
Update: Thank you to the Boston running community for an amazing event.
